Week 2 Predictions for the 2025-2026 NFL Season

Week 1 Results

12-4

Overall Results

12-4

Moving Forward and Bouncing Back

The NFL 2025 season is fully underway and of the 16 games played in season openers, I correctly picked 12 of the winners. I failed to get any final scores correct by both teams, but I did nail the Cowboys’ 20 points, Jacksonville’s 27, the Steelers’ 34 points, and San Francisco’s 17.

In the first week of the season, there were some expected results, some severe disappointments, and some very wild high scoring games. There are teams hoping to bounce back from a devastating loss while other teams that were impressive hope their successes will carry over for another week.

Knee Jerk Reactions to Week One

Cardinals 20 / Saints 13: Big year for Kyler Murray. He needs to prove he can be a consistent topflight quarterback. The Saints may be in for a long year.

Bills 41 / Ravens 40: A wild shootout and in what many are saying are the two teams that will be vying for the AFC title.

Bengals 17 / Browns 16: Same old Browns? When do we see Dillon Gabriel or Shadeur Sanders? You know Joe Burrow is better than this.

Broncos 20 / Titans12: Not the greatest debut for top draft pick Cam Ward but I’m sure he will have his moments this season. Denver is the dark horse favorite in the AFC.

Packers 27 / Lions 13: Is Micah Parsons the golden ticket for Green Bay to reach the Super Bowl? That remains to be seen. Detroit is coming off a great season but already has question marks.

Colts 33 / Dolphins 8: Just wow. Miami can’t be this bad, can they? How long can Daniel Jones play this well?

Jaguars 26 / Panthers 10: Has Trevor Lawrence turned the corner? He has no choice if he wants to remain a starter in the NFL. Carolina must be disappointed as their arrow was pointing up.

Chargers 27 / Chiefs 21: Some think this is the start of the downfall for the reigning AFC champion Chiefs. The Chargers always threaten during the season and then collapse.

Rams 14 / Texans 9: Has the CJ Stroud bubble burst? The talent rich AFC is a tough hill to climb, and Houston doesn’t have the tools to make that trek. Matthew Stafford, despite a bad back continues to play on.

Raiders 20 / Patriots 13: Mike Vrabel loses in his return to New England as head coach. Pete Carroll on the other hand returns to the NFL as the oldest head coach in history and wins his first game back.

Vikings 27 / Bears 24: Caleb Williams is on the hot seat which started in the offseason. Minnesota remains an NFC favorite even with JJ McCarthy under center.

Eagles 24 / Cowboys 20: All season long Dallas and Jerry Jones will be reminded of letting Micah Parsons walk. This could easily turn into a locker room cancer. Philadelphia didn’t look like barn burners, but they are still the champs and are 1-0.

Steelers 34 / Jets 32: Aaron Rodgers has Steelers Nation feeling particularly good. But the Pittsburgh defense has to be better. Hats off to Justin Fields showing he can play big time football.

49ers 17 / Seahawks 13: After his 2024 season Sam Darnold is not off to the greatest start. San Francisco wants to bounce back after a poor season in 2024, and this is a good start.

Buccaneers 23 / Falcons 20: While Baker Mayfield has been tearing it up the last two seasons, this is a slow start for him although he did toss three touchdown passes. Michael Penix Jr. also had a decent game.

Commanders 21 / Giants 6: When is Russell Wilson going to realize his prime has passed? Jaylen Daniels picks up where he left off last season.

It’s a long season and we are just getting started so not enough games have been played to really discover a team’s identity for this year. With that said…away we go!

Washington Commanders at Green Bay Packers

WAS 17

GB 23

The Packers are the talk of the town recently especially with the addition of ex-Cowboy Micah Parsons. It seems most think that the addition of Parsons puts Green Bay back in the Super Bowl. That may be counting the chickens before they hatch but I believe the Pack is a better team than Washington. Somebody’s 0 has to go and it won’t be Green Bay at home.

Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens

CLE 9

BAL 45

You better believe John Harbaugh chewed into his defense after the fiasco 41-40 loss in Buffalo. Facing a Cleveland team that looks like they are going to have another long season, the Ravens are going to beat up on the Brownies.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals

JAX 24

CIN 35

The Bengals squeaked by the Browns last week and Joe Burrow did not have a great afternoon. Cincinnati is way better than what they showed at least offensively, and Cleveland did a poor job of exposing a suspect defense. The Bengals will rebound in a big way.

New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys

NYG 17

DAL 30

The Pittsburgh Steelers and their fan base can now see why they wanted Aaron Rodgers and not bring back Russell Wilson. The former Seahawks, Broncos, and Steelers quarterback was awful in his New York Giants debut. Rookie Jaxon Dart is breathing down his neck and it’s only a matter of time before the kid supplants Wilson behind center. The Giants are better than 2024 but the Cowboys held their own in Philadelphia last week and will win this one.

Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions

CHI 13

DET 37

The Lions could not handle the Packers in their opener, and the Bears allowed a Minnesota comeback. Both teams did not play their best game and given Detroit Head Coach Dan Campbell’s demeanor, expect a much more physical game from Detroit this time out.

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins

NE 21

MIA 24

The Dolphins are being called the worst team in the league after just one game getting blown out by the Danny Jones-led Colts. They certainly don’t want to be embarrassed for a second week in a row. They are better than that terrible loss.

San Francisco 49ers at New Orleans Saints

SF 13

NO 17

Both teams were involved in close games in week one but only the 49ers came away with a victory. I see another close battle in this one.

Buffalo Bills at New York Jets

BUF 38

NYJ 20

The Jets surprised many with their offensive play against the Steelers and Justin Fields perhaps proved to Pittsburgh replacing him with Russell Wilson last season after he led the team to four victories in the first six games was a mistake. While the Steelers did not provide much of a defensive test to Fields, Buffalo will. No way does Buffalo lose this game.

Seattle Seahawks at Pittsburgh Steelers

SEA 16

PIT 37

The Steelers wanted to get off to a fast start and thanks to Chris Boswell, he saved them from a 0-1 beginning. They have a great chance to improve to 2-0 with this game at home. Aaron Rodgers will get more comfortable in his new offense with every passing week and that should provide some caution to future teams down the road. Pittsburgh’s defense is better than what we saw in week one and Seattle comes off a loss heading into Acrisure Stadium where it is going to be LOUD. The Steelers win a second straight.

Los Angeles Rams at Tennessee Titans

LAR 17

TEN 20

The Titans played a respectable game last week despite losing. The Rams also won a close game beating the Texans. I expect a low scoring affair with Tennessee narrowly earning the win.

Carolina Panthers at Arizona Cardinals

CAR 18

ARI 27

The Cardinals return home to find a Panthers team that their coaching staff thought would be making strides in 2025. Instead, Carolina was dominated on the road last week by Jacksonville. It is expected that the Cards will surprise some teams this season with Marvin Harrison Jr. being a real threat.

Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts

DEN 23

IND 17

The Colts were one of the biggest surprises of week one blowing out Miami with Daniel Jones looking like a reborn quarterback. The Broncos play defense. That will be in their favor as they win on the road.

Philadelphia Eagles at Kansas City Chiefs

PHI 24

KC 17

When was the last time the Kansas City Chiefs found themselves in last place in the AFC West? It might be just one game but that is where they are at. Now to avoid losing their first two games to begin the season they must defeat the reigning world champions. Even playing at home, I say good luck.

Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings

ATL 31

MIN 33

To start their first game of the season with a quarterback making his pro debut, it was a slow start for J.J. McCarthy. After three quarters the Vikes were down 17-6 but McCarthy led his offense back for three straight scores to get back in front 27-17 and held off the Bears to win 27-24. This game marks one essentially still a rookie in McCarthy against last year’s starting rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. I’m favoring the Vikings at home.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Houston Texans

TB 17

HOU 19

Last week there were some high scoring games and a whole bunch of low scoring affairs. Both these teams combined in week one for 32 points with the Bucs scoring 23. Between Houston and Tampa’s season opening results, the point differential between them and their opponents was just eight points. This should be another close low scoring contest.

Los Angeles Chargers at Las Vegas Raiders

LAC 30

LV 20

The Chargers opened their season by knocking off the AFC champion Chiefs. The Raiders had an easier opponent in the Patriots. Rookie Ashton Jeanty has high aspirations and lofty expectations yet for his first pro game he rushed for only 38 yards on 19 carries with only a nine-yarder as his long for the day. Geno Smith had an outstanding debut as a Raider with 362 yards passing but Justin Herbert was about as good with three touchdown passes and 318 yards passing. The Chargers are clearly the better team here.
