NFL Week 4 Short Takes

With the fourth week of the NFL season in the books, one game never happened and another was rescheduled without the starting quarterback. Here are my week #4 short takes for the games that happened.

Kansas City 26 / New England 10: Cam Newton didn’t play because of COVID but the question is, “would he have made a difference?” I think not. The Chiefs are way ahead of every other team in the AFC right now.

Green Bay 30 / Atlanta 16: Someone got fired in Houston, is the next pink slip coming in Atlanta?

Denver 37 / NY Jets 28: There is an 0-16 conversation going on for the Green and White. They are certainly on their way to that kind of finish.

Carolina 31 / Arizona 21: This is a game Cardinals fans thought they would win but not until the surprising Panthers upset the apple cart.

Baltimore 31 / Washington 17: The Ravens might be the second-best team in the American Football Conference but no better than that. Dwayne Haskins’ job might be in jeopardy in the nation’s capital.

Cleveland 49 / Dallas 38: WOW. That’s the word for the Cowboys’ season thus far. We all thought Mike McCarthy was a great coach. Is it him or the talent?

Cincinnati 33 / Jacksonville 25: Early on the Jaguars showed signs they weren’t the worst team in the NFL. By losing to a rookie quarterback and 2019’s worst team, they are heading for the basement.

Tampa Bay 38 / LA Chargers 31: Rookie Justin Herbert may have outplayed Tom Brady. His rating was far better, and his completion percentage miles ahead, but the final score made Herbert’s stats insignificant.

Minnesota 31 / Houston 23: And so goes the Bill O’Brien era in Houston. The Texans are 0-4 and the Vikings 1-3 so when they lose to the Seahawks this week, Minnesota Head Coach Mike Zimmer might be next in being handed a pink slip.

New Orleans 35 / Detroit 29: The Lions are regressing to days of old. With that said and the Jaguars next followed by the 0-4 Falcons, they have a shot at evening their record. The Saints will be chasing Tom Brady alls season.

POSTPONED Pittsburgh vs. Tennessee: I believe that this will NOT be the only game postponed this season. With all the COVID-19 tests being reported, it just seems impossible there won’t be more impact felt.

Seattle 31 / Miami 23: Four teams remain without a win in 2020 and the Dolphins are not one of them. They made it close against one of the hottest teams in the league.

LA Rams 17 / NY Giants 9: The Giants are one of those four winless teams. The Rams while not wowing anyone have won three of four.

Buffalo 30 / Las Vegas 23: The Bills keep on keeping on … When was the last time you remember the Patriots being behind by two games in their division? If they allow their next game to be played against the COVID-19 plagued Titans, we might find out how good they are. After that, it’s a showdown against the Super Bowl champion Chiefs. Then we will know. The Raiders are a big question mark.

Indianapolis 19 / Chicago 11: The Nick Foles switch worked last week but not against the Colts. Foles went toe-to-toe with Philip Rivers but the Bears suffered their first loss of the season.

Philadelphia 25 / San Francisco 20: Carson Wentz has been on a hot seat all season and while he didn’t light it up in this game, his team did avoid a winless start to the season. While Jimmy Garoppolo is sidelined with an injury, Nick Mullens is the man behind center and he played well enough to keep the Niners in the game.
