#9 Hand Them a Field Goal - Top 10 Most Embarrassing NFL Moments

Leon Lett is famous for making two embarrassing gaffes but I’ll just mention the one for this column. Thanksgiving Day will make two appearances in this top 10 countdown of most embarrassing moments and Lett represents the first. It was Turkey Day 1993 and the Dallas Cowboys were playing the Miami Dolphins. It was cold and snowy and Dallas built a 14-13 lead heading into the final 15 seconds of regulation. As Dolphins kicker Pete Stoyanovich lined up for a 41-yard field goal attempt that would have won the game for Miami, his kick was blocked.

Game over right? NOT. Leon Lett tried to pick up the ball that had come to a standstill on the field and as he did he slipped on the icy turf making it a live ball which he fumbled and Miami recovered. With another opportunity to kick a game-winner, this time Stoyanovich nailed the three-pointer and the game went to the Dolphins.
