Franco Harris and the Immaculate Reception

The month of December is one of remembrance for fans of Pittsburgh sports and those who still live in the city. This year is especially important as it marks the 50th anniversary of two events that will stand the test of time and represent the highest of highs and the lowest of lows for Pittsburgh Steelers fans and Pirates fans everywhere. I recently authored an article for Ab ...

Journeyman Quarterback Rejuvenates Career in Seattle

Veteran quarterback, Geno Smith, is notorious for being involved in a locker room fight, fracturing his jaw in 2015 as a member of the New York Jets. Seven years later, Smith has inconspicuously found success as a Seahawk. Following the Seahawks' departure of Super Bowl Champion, Russell Wilson in March via a blockbuster trade with the Denver Broncos, expectations for Seattle ...

Every NFL Team's Best Franchise Quarterbacks in History

Recently I wrote about the quarterbacks for the Pittsburgh Steelers and noted that Terry Bradshaw and Ben Roethlisberger were probably the only true franchise QBs to ever play in Pittsburgh. That leads me to wonder, of all 32 NFL teams, who was (or is) each club’s “franchise” quarterback?

Steelers Going South, Kenny Pickett Gets the Start in Week 5

If you are a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, let the panic button be pushed. After losing to the New York Jets in week four of this NFL season, Pittsburgh finds themselves in last place in the AFC North with a 1-3 record. In reality, they received a gift in the season opener from the defending AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals a game in which the Steelers should have lost so theoretical ...

Replacing a Pittsburgh Steelers Legend

In a previous article, I wrote about Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky and the chances of losing his job to rookie Kenny Pickett. In week two of the NFL season, the Steelers lost to the New England Patriots in Pittsburgh’s season home opener. Many fans were chanting “We want Kenny” as Trubisky had his second straight mediocre game. As Ben Roethlisberger retired af ...

An Updated Look at the 2022-2023 Pittsburgh Steelers

The 2022 NFL season is officially underway with season-opening games concluded and in Pittsburgh a new era has begun. With Ben Roethlisberger in full retirement, the Mitch Trubisky-led offense is in full swing. Having won the starting quarterback job beating out rookie Kenny Pickett and last year’s backup, Mason Rudolph, Trubisky who was once a starter in Chicago is a starter ...

NFL Standings Predictions for the 2022-2023 Season

The 2022 NFL season opens on September 8 with a matchup that almost was last year’s Super Bowl. The NFL champion Los Angeles Rams will be hosting the Buffalo Bills in what should be a classic showdown. The NFL opener is the start of what should be a very exciting season with many new faces and players in other places. In the past, before a season began, I made it a practice to ...

The Chronicles of NFL Rookie Quarterbacks, Past and Present

The Pittsburgh Steelers may have had the most competitive quarterback battle this summer in training camp and during the pre-season. With Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement at the end of last season, Big Ben’s primary backup Mason Rudolph assumed the starting role would be his in 2022. Then the Steelers picked up Mitch Trubisky and Rudolph was once again delegated to the #2 role i ...

With the start of NFL training camps fast approaching, the summer sessions that head coaches utilize to prepare for the forthcoming season always bring competition for starting jobs come opening day. One of the most intriguing battles year after year are those that involve the quarterbacks. Most teams already know who their starting signal caller will be, but from time to time ...
